RELIGIOUS EDUCATION
Sharing Shabbat Program

Congregation Shir Chadash provides an innovative approach to religious education in the Hudson Valley. We invite your family to join us as we celebrate Sharing Shabbat, an opportunity for your whole family to engage in study and worship. Sharing Shabbat dates are listed in the calender.

Sharing Shabbat enables everyone in our congregational family to participate in an inter-generational education and worship experience twice monthly.

In addition to learning through worship, this unique program features classroom educational experiences for children from pre-school to high school age and seminars for adults. Our children learn basic components of Jewish education ( Jewish holidays, the synagogue, Torah, Jewish ethics, history and more ) and have opportunities to participate in elective activities. Throughout the year, your whole family will be given the opportunity to participate in your children's Jewish learning experience! Adults and post-B'nai Mitzvah youth study each week's Torah parasha with Rabbi Polish.

In the Sharing Shabbat program, your children's classes will be taught by adults, mostly members of our congregation, who are supervised by Cantor Gail Hirschenfang. Concurrently, parents, grandparents and all adults and older teens are welcome to join Rabbi Daniel Polish’s Torah study class. In addition, other special programs will be announced during the year.

For the pre-school crowd we have, once monthly Tot Shabbat Program. You and your pre-schoolers will celebrate Shabbat and our Holidays with crafts, songs and games. This program is open to the entire community and is free of charge. Please invite your family and friends to bring their pre-schoolers.

Our Machon Program is a seminar series specially designed for high school age teens. A wide variety of material and lively discussion will be presented that will interest and challenge this very discerning group.

Although parent participation in Torah study is optional, Shabbat gives you the chance to contribute to your children's education through example. It is our hope that through your involvement, your children will learn the importance of Jewish identification and observance, using you and other members of our congregation as role models. Parents are strongly urged to participate in this opportunity to grow with their children.
